Awesome quote

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.  A man who never reads lives only one.

-George R. R. Martin

Your Song

I've been singing this for days!

Question

I wonder if Kayne West listens to "Stronger" when he's working out too?

Dear Banana Moon Pies:

How on earth did you get in my house?  I know I didn't buy you.  Why do you have to be so delicious and tempting?

True story

O Christmas Tree

Can you spot our Elf on the Shelf?

Song lyrics of the day

So take me as you find me
All my fears and failures, fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in, now I surrender
Now I surrender

-"Mighty to Save", Jeremy Camp

*there was some crazy worshipping going on in the shower today.  Can I get an AMEN!?

Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory of the risen King!
Savior, He can move the mountains
Our God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save...

Look at how clean it is!

I spent the entire day rearranging my office.  I do this at least twice a year - it's like I can't figure out what looks best in this room.  It's long and narrow, so the furniture arrangements always feel incredibly cramped.  I think this one works best, even if I have my back to the room.  I finally feel like I can breathe in here.

My husband commented on how clean it was!  It definitely looks great!  Too bad the rest of the house has crap everywhere from everything I took out of the office!  Oh well, if I can help it, NONE of it is coming back in.  Time to purge!

SO TRUE

My Aunt Annie does this every time and I love it!

Song lyrics of the day

You're the reason I live
You're the reason I die
You're the reason I give when I break down and cry
Don't need no reason why
Baby, baby, bayayby
You're my angel
Come and save me tonight

- "Angel", Aerosmith

Perhaps...

OMG, I want this!

Not that I'm thinking about getting another one, but WOW, I want this!  Bon Jovi lyrics = love!

Song Lyrics of the day

Tell me that you're happy that you're on your own. Yeah yeah.
Yeah, tell me that it's better when you're all alone.
Tell me that your body doesn't miss my touch.
Tell me that my lovin' didn't mean that much.
Tell me you ain't dyin' when you're cryin' for me.

-"What it Takes" Aerosmith

*for the record, there's no point in any of these lyrics.  They just struck a chord in me today when I was having my usual shower time karaoke concert.  Yeah, picture THAT for a second...

Well technically it's a picture of my feet... but WOW!  It's 70 degrees on the day before Thanksgiving!  At this time last year it was actually snowing.  The fact that it's warm out (and muggy - Lord, it's muggy!) just makes me smile.  I love fall - it's my favorite season - but I love flip flops more than almost anything else on earth.

I hope your weather is good too!

TV memories

Now this is a smart guy...

“Mom, listen, I haven’t been together with Topanga for 22 years, but we have been together for 16. That’s a lot longer than most couples have been together. I mean, when we were born, you told me that we used to take walks in our strollers together around the block. When we were two, we were best friends. I mean, I knew everything about this girl. I knew her favorite color, her favorite food. Then we became six, Eric made fun of me because it wasn’t cool to have a best friend that was a girl or even know a girl. So for the next seven years I threw dirt at her. I like to call those “the lost years”. Then when I was thirteen, mom, she put me up against my locker and she kissed me. I mean, she gave me my first kiss. She taught me how to dance. She always was talking about these crazy things and I never understood a word she said. All I understood was that she was the girl I sat up every night thinking about, and when I’m with her, I feel happy to be alive. Like I can do anything. Even talk to you like this. So that’s, that’s what I think is love, mom. When I’m better because she’s here.”

- Cory Matthews, Boy Meets World

Song lyrics of the day

You grew up way too fast
Now there's nothing to believe
When reruns all become our history

A tired song keeps playing on the the tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name

And I won't tell 'em your name

-"Name" Goo Goo Dolls

Your grammar lesson of the day

Song lyrics of the day

If there’s a plane or a bus leaving Dallas
I hope you’re on it
If there’s a train moving fast down the tracks
I hope you caught it

Cause I swear out there ain’t where you ought to be
So catch a ride, catch a cab
Don’t you know I miss you bad
But don’t you walk to me

Baby run...

Truth

I just had a private dance party in my living room to Just like Heaven by the Cure.

Happy Fucking Monday

I spent the morning getting caught up on work and reading my friends blogs to find out what I  missed over the last few days.  It was during this time that I came across a post from my friend Leah that just hit me the wrong way...

It was THIS post that she reblogged that did it.

While the post was supposed to be a high five to best friends, it hit me in the gut more than I thought it would.  It made me realize that since Heather died, I don't have a "real" best friend any more.  I mean sure, I have friends, just like the next person.  But no one that embodies all of these things that this girl was blogging about.  No particular go-to person to share everything with.  And I think that's why I have felt SO ALONE for the last several years.  There's a chunk of my heart that's missing and just can't be replaced.  I honestly have needed my sister for so many things over the last 7 years and she's just...

gone.

You don't realize what a loss is until you lose your best friend.

Your momma don't dance and your daddy don't rock and roll

I earned some serious cool points with my 6 year old this morning.  My son seems to think that Mommy is crazy when it comes to music because I love to listen to everything (besides jazz and the blues - long story - can't stand them).  So this morning we were driving in the car and Pearl Jam comes on over my iPod.  I believe it was Evenflow that was playing.  My son actually said "Mom, do you even KNOW who sings this song?"  I had to explain to him who Pearl Jam was, what Grunge music was and the Seatlle music scene of the 1990s and how this music influenced much of the musical tastes of my generation and my little sister's generation etc.  I also explained that Mommy LOVES rock music and wishes she could play the guitar blah blah blah.  My son proclaimed he WILL play the guitar and I can be his lead singer.  That's my boy!

Suddenly Mommy doesn't only listen to boy band music.  I earned some serious street cred today!

True story

Quote of the day

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

The Tar Heels play the Wolfpack this weekend and this game is bragging rights in my family for the next year...  GO TAR HEELS!

Happiness is...

...freshly painted nails.

Go me!

I am so proud of myself today!  I made three gifts this morning - all from ideas I got from Pinterest.  If you aren't sure what Pinterest is, go here!  I love this website - it has some great ideas and I have been pinning up a storm, all with the intentions of actually doing some of the ideas I found.   Today I made three homemade gifts for Christmas.  I am trying something new this year where I actually put some THOUGHT into what I am giving my family.  You should check it out too!

Elf on the Shelf!

I am so excited - I just bought an Elf on the Shelf for my boys!  If you aren't familiar with what the Elf on the Shelf is, it's a Christmas tradition where Santa sends his Elves down to watch little children to make sure they are behaving and whether they are naughty or nice.  This wasn't a tradition we did in my family growing up, but one I learned about a few years back.  I am so excited to try this with the kids and I have already started writing down places that I want our Elf to hang out all around the house.  If you have good ideas, let me know!

I hate Time Warner Cable

I dread ever having to call into the cable company for any reason.  I had to call today because they decided to raise the price of the services we are already getting from them over $30 a month.  They even raised the price of my DVR service!  What??  The DVR shouldn't change - it's the same damn technology...

Just the whole situation in general gets me steamed.

Oh, and by the way, I got the price of my services dropped down from $159 a month to $109 a month.  F--- yeah!   Side note - don't try negotiating with me.  I will win every time.
