Five for Friday

1.  I tried to move a china hutch yesterday and I hurt my back.  Again.  I feel like I've been dealing with back pain for months because I keep doing stupid shit.  I am clearly weak and out of shape - why I think it's ok to move furniture by myself is beyond me.

2.  I treated my husband to a one-hour foot massage today.  No, I was not the one who gave him the foot massage.  And you bet your sweet ass I was sitting right next to him, getting one for myself!

3.  Apparently I have a fucking dirty mouth today.  SHIT!

4.  I bought some mums yesterday for fall.  I am officially old.  (for the record, they are purple and really pretty)

5.  Every time I hear Crash by the Dave Matthews Band I think of summers in Chapel Hill.  Sigh... nostalgia.

I'm lonely

Working from home can be an incredibly lonely existence sometimes.  You don't have a steady stream of people walking by your office, stopping to say hello and to ask how your weekend was.  So you really rely on electronic communications from the outside world to keep you going sometimes.

That being said, all of my usual "daily friends" are off doing different things this week.  One coworker is in France.  Another one is in Las Vegas.  A friend is at the beach on a girls trip, and another is busy busy busy this week and hardly has a moment to stop and take a breath.

And I'm here, and I'm lonely.  Sigh...

(I guess this means I should be super productive and get as much work done as possible right?)

I am so ready...

... for AUTUMN!

After a particularly sweaty and hot summer, I am so ready for the crisp weather!

The dining room

I had the dining room painted today.  It looks a thousand times better than it did before!  There was a tan color in there before that made it look very "country", if you know what I mean.  I went and had it painted a shade darker than the hallways downstairs (the color is Slate from Restoration Hardware) and it looks awesome!  See below...

Sorry for the bad photo - the light from the window was throwing the colors off.  I like this a lot!  Now to pick out new curtains and get some art up on the wall!

Love notes

From a coworker yesterday, en route to a conference in Las Vegas.  The title said "Thinking of you".  hahahaha

Go HEELS!

Either way, I'll take a 62-0 victory any day!

My weekend - in pictures

I spent most of the weekend not feeling well.  What good times I did have were seen below.  Enjoy!

There was rain.  Lots of rain.

There was pool time with the rain in the background.

There was ice cream with friends!

There was one more afternoon spent in a bikini...

There were many many laughs.

I hope you and your family had a great time too!

Feeling blessed

There is nothing better than seeing the fruits of your labor.  The butterfly garden Jayson and I created last summer in our backyard has been a labor of love.  It's a constant battle with weeds and other things that want to set up shop in this little corner of our yard.  But this weekend, it all made the effort worth it.  Our first real permanent resident of the garden was here all weekend long.  This Tiger Swallowtail has decided to come stay with us for awhile and I couldn't be happier.  It was so friendly I was even able to let it crawl onto my hand.  Clearly I wasn't able to snap a picture but I did manage to get close enough for these two.

How do you know you don't feel well?

It's 95 degrees outside - you're wearing a cardigan, sweat pants, and Uggs, and you STILL have chills.

Wacky MadLibs

(*backstory: I gave my sister-in-law a birthday card that had a page of Mad Libs on the front.  THIS is what my brother and her created together last night - I laughed so hard I almost peed)

Dearest Oscar,
Happy birthday to the most creamy grocery store in the whole wide pumpkin!  I hope all your balls come true on this dirty day.  May your year be filled with joy and bastards.  I hope you know how proud I am of what a/an sweaty helmet you have become.  I can hardly believe you're turning 12 years old!  My, how the pig-fuckers have flown.  I hope you spend your special day doing something that will make you feel large.  With any luck, you'll get that newfangled hat you've been saving for!  Happy birthday, my darling school!

Hugs and highways,
Your friend Amy

For Jill and Ben

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

My heart is so broken

I just found out that a friend of mine lost her dear, sweet daughter in a drowning accident yesterday.  I am just beside myself right now.  What a horrible tragedy!  I'm hugging my babies a little tighter tonight.  And praying for another family who is dealing with such an immense, horrific loss.

Rest in peace, Penny.

I miss the ocean
