And finally...

...PROOF that my friends are more fun than yours!

Another successful Color Me Rad is in the books!

Oh great.

Now all of the old farts will be heading our way too...

Raleigh is the #1 place in America to retire.

Living in the 90s

I tried so hard to find something that didn't apply to me.  Major FAIL.

Whoa

So this is like a thing?  I wonder how they decide who gets to be thrown around and who gets to be the base?  Holy crap.

8 more weeks...

... and I am FINALLY done with MBA school.  I'm beginning to wonder if it was worth the effort, the student loans and the time I missed with my children.

My progress

After one month, my teeth have responded fairly quickly to my braces.

Check out this enormous GAP between my front teeth!  OMG!  I hope that fixes itself because that is NOT pretty.  (and no, that's NOT food stuck between my teeth.  I actually thought it was.  Nope, it turns out it's a HOLE.)

Truth.

You're welcome

(I couldn't stop laughing)

Thought of the day

My son, my hero

I took Tyler in to get his casts removed today and to pick up the new braces that he will have to wear at bedtime indefinitely.  The doctor said his feet responded well, but that he would have to have the surgery to relocate his tendons in his feet, as well as having bone shaved off of each foot.  I cried.  Tyler didn't miss a beat - the kid never complains and you would never know how much he has been through in his life.  He is such a little trooper and doesn't miss a beat.  I am constantly reminded of the innocence and optimism of being a 4 year old child.  My son is truly my hero.

When in Rome...

True Confession Tuesday

1.  I have eaten mexican food 4 times since I've been in Texas.
2.  None of those instances involved tortilla chips or guacamole.  (That's sacrilege!)
3.  In exactly 48 hours, I will be sitting on the beach with my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand.
4.  I forgot to bring my glasses with me on my trip and I've had to work for two solid days with my computer screen completely out of focus.  Cue the headache in 3, 2, 1...
5.  I bought 5 pairs of shoes while I was in town, none of which were cowboys boots.  Again.

Quote of the day

In light of National Boss's Day on Wednesday, I offer the following:

"The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership."
- Colin Powell
I have to admit, even though I have some major issues with my company sometimes, I have THE BEST BOSS EVER.  Steve, you da man.  You've kept me sane when I was ready to quit on the spot.  I am truly the most blessed in my whole company because I get to work with you and not many others do.  I truly appreciate everything you do for me.  Happy Boss's Day (on Wednesday)!!

Wine musings

What is it about music that stirs so many memories?  I'm sitting here listening to the soundtrack from the Lion King while I write a paper tonight and it is amazing what emotions it can stir up.  When I was in band my senior year in high school, we played the soundtrack to this movie for one of our concerts.  I had several solos in the piece and they still almost move me to tears.

I truly hope my children appreciate music the way I have in my life.  I couldn't imagine my life without it.

In exactly three days time...

I will be here, with a drink in my hand!

WOW.

Um yes.  I've been there.

Howdy Texas!

I'm working from my mother's house for the next two days while I'm visiting her in San Antonio.  She's been home because she had a stent put in her heart.  Her older sister Jean is here too.  This can only get exciting while I'm trying to conduct client calls!

Wish me luck...  I'm going to need a stiff drink by the end of today.

Fun fact

Listening to movie scores while writing papers makes it more exciting.  I recommend Michael Kamen's Overture from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

...Hogwarts will always be my home...

Sorry, I digress.  But this made me laugh out loud in Panera Bread!

Vomit-inducing post alert

Friday was mine and Jayson's 10 year wedding anniversary.  Being that we are getting ready to take a trip to the Dominican Republic to celebrate, I expected a nice low key dinner at our favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill.  Well, I certainly got that and SO MUCH MORE.

Check out this bling!

It's so sparkly!  As if the new anniversary band wasn't enough, he took me to the Old Well on campus and got down on one knee and asked me to continue to be his wife for another 50 years.  HA!  (In front of about 20 college kids, no less).

This guy never disappoints.  :)

Song lyrics of the day

Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong

-"Still the One"  Shania Twain

Happy 10 year anniversary babe!

Word

Word of the day

querencia
(n.) a place from which one's strength is drawn, where one feels at home; the place where you are your most authentic self.

Monday, October 7, 2013

Wow. Just wow.

How can people actually think that furloughed employees are on a "paid vacation" right now?  I actually had someone (who I considered a close friend) to post that on Facebook.  And he actually knows the situation with Jayson and what's going on with his job.

Please note: Not knowing when you'll be able to go back to work or when you actually will receive your next paycheck is NOT a vacation.  There is nothing relaxing about it.  There is nothing fun about it.  It's unnecessarily stressful.  Those employees were TOLD NOT TO GO TO WORK.  Not because they didn't want to or need to.  They didn't make this decision.  Why do you think it's OK to post things that like?  Do you think there aren't actual PEOPLE that are being effected right now?

My mortgage still has to be paid.

My bills are not on a furlough.

So how about shutting the F--- up because you are ignorant?  How's that sound?

12 day difference

It may not look like much to you, but this is what an 8 pound weight loss looks like on me.  All due to being able to eat not much of anything but carb-loaded CRAP for 12 days.  (Worst.  Diet.  Ever.)  While I'm glad my belly has shrunk (no doubt because I can't eat anything like tortilla chips and guacamole), I'm craving a SALAD like it's nobody's business.

I am disgusted.

I'm disgusted that our politicians are such morons.

I'm disgusted that their "plan" to tie funding of Obamacare to the budget bill backfired.

I'm disgusted that the mastermind for this brilliant idea is from North Carolina.

I'm disgusted that the President would instead like to throw stones than negotiate.

I'm disgusted that Obamacare is good enough for the American people, but is in no way good enough for the politicians who voted for it.

I'm disgusted that my husband is one of the government employees that is forced to stay home and not receive a paycheck because of these asinine shenanigans.

I'm disgusted that in 2013 we are moving backwards.

I'm disgusted at everything our government stands for.

Shame on you.
