My heart...

... really, really wants to speak today.  I don't know what the deal is but I can't seem to stop the tears.  The combination of nightmares, poor sleep, and just overall exhaustion are starting to wear down on me.

Maybe?

I'm having an Elvira kind of hair day.  Low humdity + high pressure + cold weather = awesome!

Things said on my conference call this morning

It's "spooky" how fast these sprints go by

(In response to that comment) "Boooooooo!"

They busted their balls all weekend

My palms are sweating, looking at this

You guys have really cracked the nut

Blobs are not good for much more than taking over movie theaters

TRUE Confession Tuesday

Actually, it's like a MILLION songs, but there's always that one...

Confession

I have eaten 6 Baby Ruths, 2 Butterfingers and 4 Heath bars today.  I think I may need to go buy more Halloween candy before tomorrow night!

Oh my

Can we say "pageant hair"?!

Hurricane Sandy

Luckily we were pretty much spared by Hurricane Sandy, but my family up north had some damage.  I thought I would post a picture of ours to let everyone know that no matter what, we WILL rebuild...

I love drummers

So yes, I have a "thing" for drummers, but this one is my favorite...

Thought for the day

Truth

You can't lose what you never had

AMEN

Quote of the day

There are very few things on this planet more pathetic than a Southerner in a snowstorm or a Northerner in a hurricane.

Weekend update!

This weekend was another busy one - I thought a photo update would be appropriate!

Cassie and I got up early on Saturday and headed over to the amphitheater to run the Color Me Rad 5k.  It was a lot fun - there were people all along the race route that would throw "color bombs" at you.  The idea was to start out all clean and be colored from head to toe by the end.

Here's my before and afters:

Cassie ducked every bomb thrown at her, and apparently I was just too fast because we didn't end up very dirty!  The funny thing was that when I finally took off my clothes to get in the shower, I was stained blue and green on my skin because everything had soaked through!

The UNC vs NCSU game was saturday afternoon... being that State had beaten us for the last 5 years in a row, and we just lost to dook last week, this was a huge game for us.

We hung out with our neighbors and we had a decent mix of both State and Carolina fans in attendance.  MAN, WHAT A GAME?!?!  Thank goodness we won though.  I'm tired of hearing about it from the NCSU people that they have beaten us so much!  haha!

Whoa Sandy

This has pretty much missed us, aside from some spotty rain and high winds, but WHOA, look out Hawkins Family in NY!!

Confession

I couldn't get any of my papers written without the help of the soundtrack to any and all of the Harry Potter movies.

New edition

The newest addition to my quote wall:

Song lyrics of the day

I fell (I fell)
So fast (so fast)
Can't hold myself
Back
High heels (high heels)
Red dress (red dress)
All by yourself, gotta catch my breath

I'm slipping into the lava
And I'm tryin' to keep from going under
Baby, who turned the temperature hotter?
'Cause I'm burning up, burning up
For you baby

-"Burnin Up," The Jonas Brothers

*oh Jo Bros, you're so prophetic...

GO HEELS!

With all of the "I hate UNC" posts I've seen lately, I just wanted to say GO HEELS and good luck to NCSU.  We all know this is all you can cling to...  ;)

Go Heels!

Song lyrics of the day

Calloused and bruised
dazed and confused
My Spirit is left wanting something more
Than my selfish hopes
and my selfish dreams
I'm lying with my face down to the floor
I'm crying out for more

-"Give me words to speak," Aaron Shust

Best. Song. EVER!

I can't credit for finding this song.  My coworker SHAWN found this and I have been laughing for a solid 15 minutes.

"A vagina is 50 times better than a penis!"

Check it out HERE.

Song lyrics of the day

'Cause this is not about what you've done,
But what's been done for you.
This is not about where you've been,
But where your brokenness brings you to

This is not about what you feel,
But what He felt to forgive you,
And what He felt to make you loved.

You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.

-"You are More", Tenth Avenue North

California knows how to partttttyyyyy

Yes, Tu-Pac has been playing in my head since we touched down this afternoon, followed by the theme song to Full House (thanks a lot Danny!).  I had the most fun being a tourist in San Francisco today.

Here I am getting ready to drive to the Fisherman's Wharf!  I figured I would go to the most touristy area of town.  Pier 39, here I come!

These guys were loud and smelly!  Sea Lions?  Check!

I didn't feel like riding out on the boat today, so I ate dinner at a restaurant overlooking the bay.  I could see Alcatraz...

...and the Golder Gate Bridge...

... and the city behind me...
...and the bay on the other side.

Then I decided to try and find the "crookedest street in America", and I headed over to Lombard Street.  I parked here and walked up to take a look first.
These hills are incredibly steep - I heard they were close to a 40 degree angle!

Here's a pedestrian's-eye view of the street.  WHOA.

And here I go!  Wheeeeeeeeeee!

I went down twice.  OMG it was so cool!

Sometimes...

In light of my library time...

Soul mates?

Song lyrics of the day

U got, u got it bad
When you're on the phone
Hang up and you call right back
U got, u got it bad
If you miss a day without your friend
Your whole life's off track

-"U got it bad", Usher

Lucky #10

I just touched down in my 10th different airport in the last 21 days.  What the f---?!

In all seriousness, I love to travel and I typically don't mind the travel I have to do for work, but I am on week 5 of 9 continuous weeks of travel, and I am so worn out.  All I want to do when I get home this week is go to bed at 7pm every night, and it's probably not going to happen.  Sigh...

Thought for the day

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder...

I took a short detour before heading back to the airport yesterday to visit the Air Force Academy.  A friend had suggested going on campus to see the chapel there.  Wow.  Just WOW.  Thanks JMR for the suggestion - this place was BEAUTIFUL.

This picture is deceiving.  This place is several stories tall.  There's a Protestant chapel on top, and a Catholic church underneath it!  I kind of thought the building looked like airplanes - what do you think?

I took this picture looking straight up into the ceiling.  The way the sun was coming in through the windows made the whole place glow on the inside.  Those look like neon lights, but they are huge stained glass windows.

I stood here at the front of the church for probably a solid 10 minutes, just staring at this.  This place was amazing.

I took this video standing at about the middle of the chapel.  One thing to point out - how freaking ENORMOUS is that pipe organ?!  I can only imagine what this sounds like on a sunday.  Just whoa.  I was shocked at how eerily quiet it was in this place.  Yet if you were at the front of the chapel, you could hear talking in the back.  If you were standing in the middle, it was completely quiet.  Very weird.

Truth

Colorado Springs - a pictorial

I drug my ass out of bed at 4am yesterday and flew through 4 different airports to ultimately end up in Colorado Springs for a client event.  It was worth the effort to get there - wow it's gorgeous!  I can now cross off seeing Pike's Peak, walking through the Garden of the Gods, and have a phat ride for a rental car (totally a bonus!).  The pictures below speak for themselves.  Warning: there are MANY.

4am was worth it for this view:

Hanging in the Dallas airport - I don't make a convincing cowgirl...

This is a RENTAL car?  Thanks Budget!

This made me do a double take - I honestly thought a random buffalo was on the side of the road.  I stopped in the middle of the road to snap this picture.

 Hey look!  That's Pikes Peak!

What on earth is that?  The Acropolis?  (apparently this is just a natural rock formation that looks like a castle or a Greek/Roman structure)

The following pictures were all taken at the Garden of the Gods.  WOW, what an amazing place.  I stood amongst these enormous rock structures and was just blown away by the beauty around me.  Sometimes it's overwhelming to see the world like this - I get to experience all of these things, but I'm alone when I do.

 Colorado sunset.

Gratuitous cheesy picture of your touristy self.
