It's Shower Time!

Today I hosted a baby shower for our good friends Derek and Courtney.  They are expecting a little baby boy around my birthday in December.  We had a great time hosting the shower and I thought I would post a few pictures from the event.

Here's me looking all domestic and like Betty Crocker.  Eat your heart out, boys!
(I was actually making mini pumpkin pie croissants - they were the BOMB!)

I made all of the flower arrangements by hand - nothing too flashy.  Simple is best!

One of the printable poems I made for Courtney's nursery.

Always.

So...

.... it's done nothing but rain for a solid 24 hours, and my hair has been a complete MESS because of the weather.  I took this picture last night and I was shocked at how curly my 'fro was.  You like?

Song lyrics of the day

Saturday night she's rockin' out by the bonfire
Flirtin' from that tailgate and crankin' up the dial
Come Sunday mornin' she'll be singing with the choir
Drivin' me crazy with that kiss me smile

There's a little bit of devil in her angel eyes
She's a little bit of heaven with a wild side
Got a rebel heart a country mile wide
There's a little bit of devil in her angel eyes
There's a little bit of devil in her angel eyes

-"Angel Eyes", Love and Theft

Song lyrics of the day

Light, light, light up the sky
Light up the sky to show me You are with me
I, I, I can’t deny
Oh I can’t deny that You are right here with me
You’ve opened my eyes so I can see You all around me
Light, light, light up the sky
Light up the sky to show me You are with me

-"Light up the Sky", The Afters

Song lyrics of the day

Hello again
Seem like forever between now and then
You look the same
I mean you look different but you haven't changed

Funny to think how the time gets away
Funny how you take me right back again
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
I saw you laughin' and I was afraid that I'd get in the way

-"Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd", Dave Matthews Band

Confession

I have a list of songs going in my head that I WILL learn to play on the piano.

Like "Just a Kiss" by Lady Antebellum.  Or "The Dance" by Garth Brooks.

I bet you can guess at least 10 of them just by thinking of songs with piano pieces.

Quote of the day

True Story

In college, we called them UDIs.  (unidentified drunken injuries)

True Confession Tuesday

1.  I have come up with 13 different things in my head that I am tempted to call my gyno about and suggest that we try to "deal" with my ongoing female issues.  I mean seriously, this has gone on long enough.  I'm ready to rip out my uterus.  TMI?  You have NO idea...

2.  I read Leah's blog and now Free Your Mind by EnVogue is also playing in my head.  Thanks Leah.  (Prejudice, wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes)...

3.  I got my car washed first thing this morning.  It made me smile.  It's the little things, people!

4.  I have 9 empty toilet paper rolls sitting on my desk at the moment.  They are for an upcoming halloween project.  I am tempted to throw them all away, but I really want to have the "cool" house this halloween.  (And Jayson still keeps begging for me to let him buy a fog machine.  I'm this close to giving in)

5.  I am dreading all of the work travel I am getting ready to go on.  While I actually enjoy being on the road and sleeping in a big king sized bed all by myself, with as many feather pillows as I can get my hands on, I am not looking forward to wearing heels and suits for several days in a row.

6.  I am throwing a baby shower this Sunday.  I love babies.  I am so excited for Derek and Courtney because they are having a BOY and I just know they are going to be the best parents.  I think I'm more excited for Derek though - he is going to be an amazing father - and if his son grows up to be anything like him, that's a great honor.  And Courtney is so lucky to know the love of a son.  Mothers and sons are such a special bond.  :)

SHIT!!!!

I seriously need life to slow the F--- down!  I feel like I can't catch my breath anymore.  Like EVER.  Like I will never, ever get caught up on anything before people pile more crap on me.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO HEELS!

So Jayson and I went to the UNC vs ECU football game this weekend, and apparently the only pictures I got were pictures of myself.  See below:

My outfit was kind of cute.

My friends are kind of cute.

My husband and I are sickeningly cute.

And for the record, Carolina won 27-6.  That should give me enough bragging rights for quite a while!

Story of my life

Quote of the day

What the heart once owned, it shall never lose.

Sing with me

She's been a bad, bad girl...

Dreams

So I woke up this morning from a horrible dream.  I dreamt that my sister's dog, Max, had died.  I have been Max's adoptive parent since my sister passed away back in 2004, and this would have been a very sad day if I had woken up and this turned out to be true.

Max drives me nuts.  He's expensive.  He barfs under my bed.  He barks at the trash guys.  He eats lizards and pees on everything.  But he's my special link to Heather and I'm not ready for that relationship to be over yet.

The truth of the matter is that he is getting old.  He is almost 11 years old and he is getting on up there in doggie years.  I know his mortality is imminent eventually, but I can't help being sad about that thought.  Sigh...

Isn't he cute though?

Song lyrics of the day

She's sun and rain, she's fire and ice
A little crazy but it's nice
And when she gets mad, you best leave her alone
'Cause she'll rage just like a river
Then she'll beg you to forgive her
She's every woman that I've ever known

She's so New York and then L.A.
And every town along the way
She's every place that I've never been
She's makin love on rainy nights
She's a stroll through Christmas lights
And she's everything I want to do again

It needs no explanation
'Cause it all makes perfect sense
For when it comes down to temptation
She's on both sides of the fence

No it needs no explanation
'Cause it all makes perfect sense
When it comes down to temptation
She's on both sides of the fence

She's anything but typical
She's so unpredictable
Oh but even at her worst it ain't that bad
She's as real as real can be
And she's every fantasy
Lord she's every lover that I've ever had
And she's every lover that I've never had

-"She's Every Woman", Garth Brooks

*Thanks for writing my theme song, Garth!  haha (Totally kidding - but I love this one.  If a guy was to ever sing this to me, I'd be putty...)

No shit

For the record

Savignon Blanc + Dark Chocolate = YUCK.

Super Sad True Love Story

So I volunteer in the Durham County Library from time to time (hell yes, my nerd card is out and proudly on display) and I came across a book today that made me stop and reflect.  It was called Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart.

If I was going to write a memoir about my first "REAL" love, this would be an aptly titled book.  Too bad that shit is already taken.  But in all seriousness, it really is a sad and ridiculously heartbreaking story.

While mine is a super sad true love story, it has a bit of a happy ending...  I am lucky enough that I still get to talk to the subject of this book on a fairly regular basis.  And that, to me, is a super happy thank the lord tale.  And I intend to make sure it stays that way.  Always.

Sometimes things may not turn out how you wanted or hoped, but the alternative is pretty wonderful too.

;)

I love Shazam

So my friend Summer introduced me to Shazam last summer when I came to visit her in Austin, and I have to tell you, I absolutely LOVE that app.  But, it will be the death of me.  Because of Shazam, I have spent almost $100 in the last week on downloading music.

If you're not familiar with Shazam, it's this really cool app that helps you identify songs when you hear them.  For instance, let's say there is a song on the radio that you are really digging.  You click the Shazam button, your phone listens to the song for about 10 seconds, and then the title and artist shows up on your phone.  Cool right?  But what's even cooler is that you can click the button that says Download NOW from iTunes!  You go straight to iTunes and lo and behold, there's the song cued up and ready for you to hit "Download Now."

I love this app.  I hate this app.  No I really love it.  My husband probably doesn't because that's the most music I've downloaded at once in a very very long time.

Quote of the day

Whoa.  Just whoa.

GPOYW

Hey look!  My hair is straight for the first time since JULY!  (The humidity and rain has been brutal this summer).

Song lyrics of the day

Lookin' back on the things I've done
I was tryin' to be someone
I played my part, kept you in the dark
Now let me show you the shape of my heart

-"Shape of my Heart", Backstreet Boys

(BSB 4-eva!)

Confession #2

"Dancing on the Ceiling" by Lionel Richie elicits real, honest desk chair dancing.  If you need a pick-me-up, you should totally try it!

Confession

I have eaten nothing but Swiss Cake Rolls for the last 24 hours.  True story.

So...

I had a dream last night that someone built a big water slide and at the bottow was another slide coming in the other direction that tacos were slid down.  When you reached the bottom you tried to grab a taco coming out of the other slide before you went under water.  It was awesome and I couldn't stop laughing in my sleep!

Thought for the day

That being said, I WILL learn to play the guitar.  I will just be 65 when it happens.  :)

Happy thoughts

Song lyrics of the day

(It's a late 80s power ballad day!)

Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But I don't want to
Being without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to ya babe
You're a hard habit to break

-"Hard habit to break", Chicago

I miss Heather...

True story

My wish for you

Ya think?

My weekend, in pictures

We had a busy weekend.  I figured it would be more fun to just do a highlight reel.  Here goes!

Brier had a soccer game this weekend.  They won 2-0!  I didn't think to take any shots while he was playing, so here's one of him shooting on the goal during warmups.

After the soccer game, we went to a birthday party for my friend Pam's little girl.  It was held at a farm out in Youngsville.  It was a lot of fun - the kids got to ride a train, take a hayride, see some farm animals, and pick out their own pumpkins.

Tyler didn't get a nap, so he was a grumpy butt most of the afternoon.

I got a new book this week and have read half of it already.  I am fascinated by what the public doesn't know and just how bad our government really is right now.  50 more days until the election - I am really hoping for a change in November.

I spent some more time volunteering at the library this weekend.  It makes me sad to see how run down the place is.  It's super dusty in there too.  I just want to clean the whole place and vacuum - people with borderline OCD like me don't do too well in places like that.  haha

I hope you had a good weekend!

Confession

I conduct 95% of my conference calls like this:

Damn I'm old

This song came out in the late 90s.  Wow.

Truth

Five for Friday

1.  I named my iPhone "White, white baby".  I completely forget about it until I'm backing up my phone and it still makes me laugh.  Clearly, I'm hilarious.

2.  My husband is one of the funniest gift givers.  He always gives me the most bizarre gifts, but they are always completely thoughtful.  For instance, the two most recent gifts he bought me were a) an ultrasonic toothbrush and b) Tom Woodward's new book.  For the record, I wanted both of those - but it cracks me up when he sends me a text message that he has a surprise for me (and I think Oh goody he's bringing home wine or flowers! (haha)) and it's a toothbrush.  :)  God love him - he's a great guy!

3.  I spend 97% of my time on Fridays doing IT-related stuff for my job.  In case you didn't know, I am NOT an IT person.  Not even close.  I wish I didn't have to do this stuff.  There are so many places that mistakes can occur and I hate having that pressure on me.  HATE IT.

4.  It smells like food in my house.  I bought new plug in thingies and when you walk from one room to another, it smells like caramel and pumpkin and all kinds of food smells!

5.  I haven't drank a soda in two weeks.  That's a huge thing!

I love you!

Song lyrics of the day

I'd start walking your way
You'd start walking mine
We'd meet in the middle
'Neath that old Georgia pine
We'd gain a lot of ground
'Cause we'd both give a little
And their ain't no road to long
When you meet in the middle

-"Meet in the Middle", Diamond Rio

*fun fact: this song was written by Gladys Knight!  :)

Confession

I put on makeup today for the first time in 6 days.

Thought for the day

Dear Wine

Dear Wine,

I miss you.  I know we only broke up 2 weeks ago but I am starting to really feel your absence.  I had to do homework tonight WITHOUT YOU and it just felt so totally wrong.  I hope you are taking care of yourself.   Maybe one day we will be together again, but for now, I know this is what I have to do.  It doesn't mean I don't think about you often and wonder how you are.

Counting the days until we meet again,
Carrie

Happy Panties' Optional Thursday!

Cleaning update

The new cleaning ladies got here at 11am.  They were supposed to clean the whole house and do a "detail clean" of our kitchen and bathrooms.  There are FOUR of them here now - the other two must have called for reinforcements!  Apparently my house is much more messy than I realized.  (that's very embarrassing)

It's been two hours and they are STILL working on the upstairs!  But I will say, I went upstairs to change a load of laundry and I saw them scrubbing my baseboards.  If I hadn't said it before, this was the best investment EVER.  My house is going to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building!

Confession

I find it completely impossible to listen to songs that have a corresponding dance routine on Just Dance (for the Wii) without actually doing the choreography.  This happens in the car a lot.  Today's culprit was the Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO.

Can't sleep

Goodbye, Summer...

Top 10 things to mark the end of summer:

10.  Turning off the A/C
9.    Wearing hoodies
8.    Halloween candy in the stores
7.    Choosing a "fall" color at the nail salon
6.    School is back in session
5.    Football season!
4.    Twelve different pumpkin flavored drink choices at the Starbucks
3.    The appearance of mums on front stoops
2.    Cinnamon scented candles
1.    Fading tan lines    :(

Truth

Incredible

So I'm sitting here waiting for my lunch order at the Greek place near my house when I overhear a conversation between two "portly" ladies dressed in scrubs. I can only theorize that they are nurses or dental assistants or something based on how they are dressed and the fact that we are surrounded by a huge medical park. Well the girls are going on and on about how they don't have time to go to the gym and the last thing they want to do is work out etc. The conversation suddenly turns to dessert, seeing as how there's a cupcake shop right next door. Instead of spending the next 20 minutes of their lunch break enjoying this beautiful weather and taking a much-needed walk, they are going to go eat 2,000 calorie cupcakes. Ugh. I hate it for them!

Side-tracked

I got so sidetracked today when I was looking at videos on YouTube and I came across this gem.  Ignore the bad English etc, and take a trip down memory lane!

It's Hip Hop Humpday!

For the record, it's just Humpday, but a friend of mine runs a website called Hip Hop Humpday and I love the concept.  So, just for kicks, I'm posting random hip hop videos on Wednesdays from now on.  Starting with this one:

Enjoy!

To the stars

My son is home sick today and I put in a movie for him to watch while he's lounging on the couch and moaning about not feeling well.  I chose Dragonheart.  Now this movie isn't necessarily Oscar-worthy, but the music score is amazingly beautiful.  This is one of my all-time favorite movie soundtracks.  But you can decide what you think for yourself...

Nice

Why does this not surprise me?
