Song Lyrics of the Day

Would you dance, if I asked you to dance?
Would you run, and never look back?
Would you cry, if you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?

Would you tremble, if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh? Oh please tell me this
Now would you die, for the one you love?
Hold me in your arms, tonight

I can be your hero, baby
I can kiss away the pain
I will stand by you forever
You can take my breath away

-"Hero", Enrique Iglesias

She's thrifty, she's just my type

OK so that's not how the song goes, but it should be!

After taking another look at our finances this month, it became glaringly obvious that most of the money being spent in this household was done by me.  Sigh...  Why am I so high maintenance?

SO, in the spirit of being thrifty, I am attempting (yet again) to limit the amount of money I spend on my nails.  I know what you're thinking.  Spoiled little girl needs her nails done, blah blah blah.  I used to be able to justify this a bit more because my job FORCED me to be in front of customers on a daily basis.  And regardless of what you may think, customers definitely form an opinion on whether or not they want to buy from you based on your appearance.  So in the past it made sense for me to have my nails done ALL THE TIME.

Now that I work from home and I'm in front of a client only a few times a year, this makes no sense for me to keep this habit up.  So I am attempting to paint my own nails.  And honestly, it's not as much of a disaster as I expected.

See?

I know it looks like my nails aren't even painted, but I can assure you, they are.  It's a sparkly color and it's really sheer.  And they look nice!  Go me!

I need more help with being thrifty though.  What other things do you do to save money where you don't feel like you're sacrificing everything?  Leave a comment!

I love Groupon

Man I love Groupon.  I just got my carpets downstairs cleaned for $40.  And then the guy did the rest of the house for another $90.  $130 to clean the carpets in my 3,000 square foot home?   YES PLEASE.

Red String of Fate

“According to the myth, the gods tie an invisible red string around the little finger of people who are destined to be soul mates and will one day marry each other.” It can get twisted and knotted..but it will never be broken."

This would definitely explain a lot when it comes to Jayson and I.  I definitely believe we were destined to meet.  I know it seems "out there" and a little far-fetched, but when you hear the story about how we met, how many mutual friends we have (in other states etc), it was like God and the universe knew we were supposed to be together.  Sigh... I love that idea.  :)

(oh and ps, I found this on Leah's tumblr today)

Song Lyrics of the Day

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

- "With or without you", U2

I made my son hold still long enough to capture this picture.  How cool is this?

Oh and I took that with my iPhone.

Je ne regrette rien

GO TAR HEELS!

The North Carolina Tar Heels beat the NC State Wolfpack last night, 74-55.  This isn't that significant of a win in the grander scheme of things, but I feel the need to brag for a just a minute.  All year long, my brother (who is a Wolfpack grad) gives me a hard time for NCSU beating us in football for the last 5 years or so.  But he tends to forget that UNC has beat NCSU 11 times in a row in men's basketball.  And let's be honest, neither school is a "football powerhouse".  So who cares if you beat us in football.  What has your school done lately in basketball?

There is a common misconception in this state that the "true rivalry" is between dook and Carolina.  I disagree wholeheartedly.  While I cannot stand dook, and aside from a few exceptions (hey Iliana!) most people I know that went to dook are total douchebags.  Yes, I said it.  You guys are douchebags.  If you disagree, act in a way that changes my mind.  Just sayin...

My rivalry is with NC State.  Some of my best friends went to state - Leah, Nicole, Elizabeth and John, Sarah, Jenn, Bryce, TJ and Amy, Brian...  And nothing makes me happier than embarrassing your school when we win.  But one thing you will never see from me is a blatant disrespect for you, your team, your players etc.  In fact, I don't usually gloat because I can tell most of you feel bad enough when you lose.  Why rub it in?
What I will say is that today is a good day to be a Tar Heel.  And I won't hide the love I have for my school.

GO TAR HEELS GO!

Song Lyrics of the Day

To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
When you said goodbye

- "Cry out to Jesus", Third Day

I don't know why these hit me so hard this morning.  I am feeling the absence of my sister more than usual today...

I don't know why this struck me as so funny, but I seriously cannot stop laughing.

I love you, JT

Well if that doesn't just sum it right up...

Don't be so quick to walk away
I wanna rock your body, please stay

OUCH

I pulled a muscle this morning as I was leaning up on my elbow and getting out of bed.

See that little piece of the pectoralis major that connects your chest to your shoulder?  It creates the inner corner of your armpit?  Yeah, THAT part is what made me scream in pain this morning.  I seriously cried.  Is this another part of getting older?  Because if so, I am in for a bumpy ride.

I'm scheduled for a massage today at lunchtime.  Do you think it's too much to ask the guy to massage my armpit?  haha

OUCH

I'm going on day 3 of a sinus headache and I am seriously to the point where I can't function anymore.  I have so much work to do for class tonight and I'm going to skip it to go to bed early.  UGH.

It feels like my head is in a vice.  And the right side of my face hurts behind my cheekbones.  Ouch.  Just ouch...

Second song lyrics of the day

I miss the sound of your voice
The loudest thing in my head
And I ache to remember
All the violent, sweet,
perfect words that you said

-"Come on get higher", Matt Nathanson

How cool is this?

I just watched a clip of my brother in law playing football in high school on a website called www.mygamefilms.com.   SO COOL!

Unfortunately my lame ass high school wasn't even represented on this site.

Song Lyrics of the Day

And there's a danger in loving somebody too much,
and it's sad when you know it's your heart they can't touch.
There's a reason why people don't stay who they are.
Baby, sometimes, love just ain't enough.

-"Sometimes love just ain't enough", Patti Smyth and Don Henley

Oh Georgetown cupcake...

You derail my diet every time.  This time I'm bringing Heather L. down with me though.  I've got a half dozen with your name on it, sister!  ;)

Before I forget...

Happy Birthday to my wonderful hubby, Jayson!  He's 38 today and doesn't act a day over 37.  ;)  Love you babe!

I love comments...

ajh said:

"can that be my reward too for working out and getting in shape?  I want a piece of that action!
didn't know you were in interested in playing for that team as well...  ; )"

Just to clarify, my reward was a new BIKINI.  hahahahaha   A bikini, AJ!!!

My goal

I posted about this on my workout blog, but I think it needs to be posted here too.  This is my reward for reaching my goal weight...

Hot right?

Five Fact Friday

1.  My entire body from my belly button to my thighs is so sore right now.  Who would have thought that YOGA would be that intense?  I am taking a break from P90x today and will walk 2 miles to try to stretch out a bit.  Yoga.  Intense!

2.  I'm buying a new computer soon.  I am torn between an iMac and a MacBook.  I'm finally going to get an Apple because most of what I use my computer for is pictures and music, which clearly that company has figured out.  The difference between the desktop and the laptop is $1000.  Big difference!  If you have one or the other, I'd love to hear your reasons of why you bought it.  It may help me make my decision!

3.  Today is my husband's birthday.  Jayson turns 38 this year.  As a joke, I bought him a box of Just For Men haircolor.  hehehe  I'm going straight to hell!

4.  I'm going up to visit DC next week for work and I'm actually excited about going this time.  I'm going to get to spend some time with one of my closest friends and I'm looking forward to that more than anything.  Why is it that the people I love the most live MILES away?  It's like it's a cruel joke or something...

5.  I really don't want to work today.  I mean REALLY don't want to.

Forks over Knives

I just watched an interesting documentary called Forks over Knives.  I was fascinated by what they showed in this movie - it was all about the incidence of cancer and diabetes based on the relationship to the amount of meat in our diets.  I've been wrestling with this concept for the last few years - I feel like we eat SO much meat.  I have been trying to eat meat only at dinner lately as a way of slowing down how much meat I was eating.  If any of you are vegetarians or have thoughts on this idea, I'd love to hear them.

Song Lyrics of the Day

And then you sense a change
Nothin' feels the same
All your dreams are strange
Love comes walkin' in
Some kind of alien
Waits for the opening
Simply pulls a string
Love comes walkin' in

-"Love comes walkin in", Van Halen

Wow

This is worse than normal!  I'm totally blaming it on work.  Will Monday get here already so I can be reminded that I am only 34 and not 94?

My newest obsession

I read this in just over a day.  As in, I started it on Sunday night - I couldn't put it down.  I read 279 pages the first day.  I finished it yesterday evening.

I can't wait for the movie in 73 days!

I'm very overwhelmed lately

I have to just take a minute and make a very obvious observation.  I am completely and utterly overwhelmed lately.  And not just like, Oh my God, I'm so busy.  I mean, SERIOUSLY overwhelmed.

Between juggling the kids, family commitments, birthdays, holidays, housecleaning, home management, my job, the extra things I'm working on for my job, three implementations this month, training a new employee, creating a global marketing plan, MBA school, working out, trying to read to clear my head, and organizing my house, I honestly don't have a clue how I'm able to get anything done.

I need a week to regroup.  But sadly, I can't really take any days off until sometime in late February.  And honestly, something's gotta give between  now and then.  So why am I spending precious moments blogging this morning?  Because if I don't say this and admit this, I'm going to crack.  I'm talking Level 3 meltdown, complete with tears.  So here it goes...

I AM EXHAUSTED, OVERWHELMED, AND I NEED A VACATION.  I took all of 2 days off at Christmas and that was not nearly long enough.

The soundtrack of my life

I love a good movie soundtrack.  Please don't misunderstand me - I'm not talking about a list of 80s song that accompanied a campy teen flick.  Or a bunch of random ass no name bands that someone is trying to make cooler than they are... I'm talking about original scores.  Music that was written specifically to accompany a movie.  Music that was dreamt up in someone's mind the first time they read a script.

I love music that stirs emotions while you are engrossed in the story, that rises and falls with the happy and sad, that conveys the mood and sticks with you.  I have my favorites - the soundtracks that I actually purchased because the music was just beautiful.  Forrest Gump.  The Lion King.  Dragonheart.  Titanic.  Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  There's a list of music I played in the band growing up that every time I hear it, I'm taken back to being 15 years old, moved to tears in the middle of a concert because the music was that powerful.

Just recently I found the most amazing playlist online that I listen to every time I study.  You can find it HERE.  There are songs from certain movies on this playlist that I had forgotten about.  Songs that I love.  I figured I would share it because music is a gift and it should be shared with others.  I hope you like it as much as I do!

I'm so ready for Spring

Wow, I am blessed

I have the best friends in the world.  I had a great time hanging out with one of my best friends (and his wife - she's awesome!) this weekend, and I just got a note from another friend telling me I was beautiful - especially on a day like today when I haven't even gotten out of my workout clothes.

It's little moments like these that are completely unexpected and make me realize just how blessed I am to have the people that are in my life.  The ones who cheer me up when I'm having a bad day.  Who quote movie lines because they know I love it. The ones who help with the kids when we need it.  The ones who send little messages all throughout the day with support and love.  The ones who leave silly voicemails and texts and posts on my blog and on facebook. Wow, I am a lucky girl.

Just wanted to say thank you and it doesn't go unnoticed.  You guys are amazing and I love you.  I really do.

Song Lyrics of the Day

I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too, so we’re really not that different, me and you.

-" Me and You " Colin Raye

I'm a Chi-liever!

So I'm not what you would call an "early adopter" of technology.  I finally got an iPhone this year.  I'm working on getting an iMac this month.  I don't use twitter, etc.  But I finally caved in and let my husband buy me a Chi flat iron for christmas.  I had tried a friend's Chi at the beach this past summer and thought it was pretty awesome.

For the record, these "implements" are over $150.  That was my reservation - why in the hell would I pay that much money for something for my HAIR?!  Well, the results are below.  HOLY CRAP.

Picture 1: Blow dry my hair with reckless abandon.  No round brush, head flipped over, etc.  (for the record, if you have curly hair, this is UNHEARD of).

Picture 2: Just call me slick!  Oh yeah, and ignore that white patch - I've had grey hair since I was 16.  Time to get my roots done!

Picture 3: The view from the back.  Holy crap my hair is getting long.  Wow, it's so straight..

Picture 4:  I can't get over how much I look like my mom in the 70s.  Crazy!

Sorry

I'm sorry I haven't written much lately.  I have legitimately been busy as SHIT with work and haven't had time for much fun stuff in the last two days.  That being said, tonight I am joining my girlfriends for "cocktails and cupcakes" and lots of laughs.  It couldn't have come at a more perfect time!  (oh and don't worry, the New Years resolution is still in full effect - no alcohol for me!)

I hope you are doing something fun tonight.  Enjoy your evening!

Thought for the day

My Resolutions

Every year I make resolutions, and some of them stick and some of them don't.  I thought I would go ahead and write out my resolutions here so that I could look back in a year and see how well (or poorly) I did this year.  So here goes...

My Resolutions
1.  To limit the number of plastic bottles we put into the recycle bin.  (Every week, it's overflowing with water bottles.  Plastic bottles are made from petroleum - less bottles = less of an impact on gas prices.  Ever notice how the price of gas went up right around the time bottled water became popular?)
2.  To make more of an effort to cook healthy dinners at home, and in turn reduce the amount of money we spend on eating in restaurants.
3.  To get skinny FIT instead of be skinny fat.  (Starting P90X on Thursday - wanna join me?)
4.  To finally learn to play the guitar.  (I've already signed up for lessons, that was the first step!)
5.  To keep my 4.0 GPA in my MBA program.  (My class this quarter is Marketing - HECK YEAH)
6.  To make more of an effort to call my friends as opposed to having text conversations.
7.  To spend more of my free time with my husband.
8.  To finally pay off the rest of our credit card debt.
9.  To start from today (and eventually catch up) on the scrapbooks for my children.  So many digital pictures, but nothing in albums.  Such a shame...
10.  To not drink alcohol.  This is a big one for me because I feel like it's such an issue lately.  In the spirit of mind and body health, this is very important.

Song Lyrics of the Day

And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shining when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neighborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?

-"Great day to be alive", Travis Tritt
